Who we are
Field Notes UK ("we", "us", "our") is the publisher of this website at callawayselfstorage.net. We are the data controller for personal data collected through this site under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.
What data we collect
This is a static reference site. We do not host user accounts, do not accept comments and do not run forms other than an editorial contact address published on our about page. Personal data collection is therefore minimal and consists of:
- Server logs. Standard web-server logs recording IP address, user-agent, referring URL, requested page and timestamp. Retained for 30 days for operational and security purposes and then deleted.
- Analytics. Aggregate, pseudonymous page-view counts via a privacy-respecting analytics tool that does not use tracking cookies and does not identify individuals. See our cookie policy for details.
- Correspondence. If you email our editorial address, we retain your email and its contents for as long as needed to respond and, where relevant, to publish a correction. Typically no longer than twelve months from resolution.
What we do with it
Server logs are used only for site operation, error diagnosis, and blocking abusive traffic. Aggregate analytics are used to understand which chapters are read most and where readers arrive from, so we can prioritise editorial work. Correspondence is used to respond to you and, where relevant, to inform corrections to the site.
Legal basis
Our legal basis for processing under UK GDPR is legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f)) — the operation and improvement of an editorial reference publication — for server logs and analytics, and consent for the small number of functional cookies documented in our cookie policy. For correspondence, the legal basis is your consent in initiating contact.
Sharing
We do not sell, rent or otherwise share personal data with third parties for marketing purposes. We use a UK-based hosting provider and a privacy-respecting analytics provider, both of which act as data processors on our behalf under written data-processing agreements. Their names and privacy policies are available on request from our editorial address.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to access personal data we hold about you; to have it corrected if inaccurate; to have it erased in certain circumstances; to restrict or object to processing; and to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office. International transfers
Our hosting and analytics providers are in the UK or the European Economic Area, and personal data is not transferred outside the EEA in the ordinary course of running this site.
Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. The date of last update is shown at the top of this page. Material changes will be flagged at the top of the page for at least 30 days.
