Overview
This site uses the smallest number of cookies we can while still functioning as an editorial publication. We do not use advertising cookies. We do not sell data.
The cookies we use
| Name | Purpose | Type | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| fnuk_cookie_ok | Records that you have dismissed the cookie notice | Functional (localStorage) | Persistent, until cleared |
| Analytics visit ID | Pseudonymous session identifier for aggregate page-view counting | First-party analytics | Session only |
We do not use tracking cookies, third-party advertising cookies, or any cookies that identify you personally. We do not participate in third-party ad networks or retargeting systems.
Analytics
We use a privacy-respecting analytics tool that measures aggregate page visits without setting tracking cookies and without collecting personally identifiable information. It records that a visit happened, which page it was, roughly where in the UK it came from at country level, and what device type was used. It does not join up visits into user profiles.
Controlling cookies
You can control cookies through your browser settings — the specific steps depend on your browser. Every major browser lets you delete existing cookies, block cookies from specific sites, or block all cookies. If you block cookies entirely, this site will continue to work: the only functional cookie we set is the one recording that you have seen the cookie notice, and its absence simply means the notice will show again on your next visit.
The cookie notice
When you first visit the site, a small notice appears at the bottom of the screen with a link to this page. Dismissing the notice sets the fnuk_cookie_ok functional cookie described above. Clearing your browser storage will remove it, and the notice will reappear on your next visit.
Third parties
We use one third-party service that could theoretically set cookies: Google Fonts, which serves the typefaces used in the site's design. Google Fonts does not set cookies through the CSS delivery, but it does log requests server-side (Google's own font-serving privacy notice covers this). If you prefer to avoid this, browser-level content blockers can prevent the font requests, and the site will fall back to your system serif and sans-serif fonts.
Changes
We will update this policy if we change what cookies we use. The date at the top of this page will be updated. Material changes will be flagged on the cookie notice for at least 30 days.
